What Are They Up To Now: Andre Mateus!
Written by Jonathan Waugh | No Comments | Published on April 9, 2020Darby Pop Publishing has had numerous up-and-coming writers and artists collaborating with us over the years. Each month, we’ll be highlighting the most recent work by one of these industry professionals who passed through our doors on the way to making their sequential storytelling dreams come true.
Darby Pop Publishing’s Women of Darby Pop (2016) anthology has proven to be a launching pad for numerous writers and artists into the comic book industry. This column previously profiled just one of the book’s contributors, and now we’re going to take a trip to Portugal to check-in with another – scribe Andre Mateus.
Mateus began his professional career as a freelance movie/tv writer and he continues to excel in that field. Mateus’ most recent produced work is a Portuguese feature comedy he co-wrote entitled “Ladroes de Tuta e Meia”; it played in cinemas last Spring. The film centers around two swindlers who attempt to separate a war veteran from his lottery winnings — and the chaos that ensues.
Mateus has kept plenty busy in the comic book world, too. His horror/fantasy mini-series, Deiciders, was distributed by Markosia Enterprises, and Mateus released a one-shot thru Action Lab with Indian artist Rahil Mohsin titled Kiss Kiss Blam Blam. If that wasn’t enough, in ’19 Mateus also dropped the first issue of Teller, a supernatural crime series from Gorilla Sentado — a publishing collective that Mateus just happens to be a part of.
