Darby Pop Publishing has had numerous up-and-coming writers and artists collaborating with us over the years. Each month, we’ll be highlighting the most recent work by one of these industry professionals who passed through our doors on the way to making their sequential storytelling dreams come true.

Since winning two of Darby Pop Publishing’s “Breaking Into Comics” contests, writer Adam Breen took the time to accomplish another major milestone: getting hitched! But when he’s not luxuriating in married life, Breen spends his time working with FutureQuakePress creating short form comics. He’s also hard at work on Kong Squad, a new comic that ties in with the classic Saturday morning cartoon.

The latest issue of FutureQuake (the publisher’s namesake title) features Breen’s short work: “Way of the Dinosaur,” and Breen says that they are “a great publisher run by a fantastic editor called Dave Evans. They also publish a brilliant horror anthology called Something Wicked and a Fanzine titled Zarjaz which runs fan stories about the 2000AD Character, Judge Dredd.” All of which is pretty cool for a writer like Breen, who was first exposed to comics through Judge Dredd himself.

Despite so much having happened since, Breen still looks back on his time with Darby Pop fondly. “Winning Darby Pop’s “Breaking into Comics” contest was such a great experience for me and it really helped me sharpen my skills as a writer,” Breen explains. “Jeff Kline has given me some great advice about my work, so I am really grateful to him and to everyone at Darby Pop for helping me develop as a creator. So a big THANK YOU to everyone at Darby Pop. I hope I get to work with you all again soon.“
