Born in Philadelphia, Matthew spent too many family vacations going up and down the East coast to tour battlefields, cemeteries and designated National heritage sites–the result of having teachers for parents.  The boredom of these long car trips led to a lot of day-dreaming and he eventually became very good at making things up to entertain himself.  He one day came to discover that he could actually make money by writing down the things he imagined, for other people.  Now a writer, Matthew is thankful that the iPhone had not been invented in his formative years.

Matthew and Stephen Scaia began writing together after meeting as Production Assistants on THE WEST WING. Their writing has consistently centered on the merging of character and premise, the effect of history on the present and, whenever possible, things blowing up. Their mothers are very proud.
